[Opening scene - Jabbar grabs a breakfast bar from a kitchen cupboard, leaving the room as Jasmine and Crosby enter.]

CROSBY: Honey...

JASMINE: Yep.

CROSBY: What's the name of that restaurant you're always talking about that you want to eat at in the city, the French joint?

JASMINE: Oh, uh, Cafe Des Nuits.

CROSBY: Cafe Des Nuits.

JASMINE: It's so good. I want to go there. Jabbar.

CROSBY: You know what would be great, is to go there and eat at the chef's table. I hear that's the thing to do.

JASMINE: Ooh, yeah.

CROSBY: Yeah, I heard that's super cool.

JASMINE: Yeah, I heard it's super cool, super expensive, and really hard to get a reservation.

CROSBY: [Sighs] Yeah. Not to mention you go there and eat all this amazing food...

JASMINE: Mm-hmm.

CROSBY: Drink amazing wine, then you gotta sit on the bridge in traffic on the way home.

JASMINE: Yeah.

CROSBY: It's, like, not even worth it.

JASMINE: Yeah.

CROSBY: Unless, of course-- now, this is crazy talk, but, like, maybe if you had a suite at the W hotel, overlooking the bay. Then maybe it would almost be worth it to go.

JASMINE: Yeah, maybe.

CROSBY: [Slurping] Well, we would need something really important to celebrate, though, in order to justify that expense. You know, I can't even think of what it could be. Like, maybe like an anniversary or something. Our anniversary.

JASMINE: Like a one-year anniversary.

CROSBY: That's what I got us!

JASMINE: No, you didn't.

CROSBY: Yes, I did. We're gonna eat there, and we're gonna stay at the W in our fat suite, and it's gonna...

JASMINE: Baby!

CROSBY: Be amazing and romantic.

JASMINE: [Squeals] You're so good. Oh. Well, what about Jabbar? We need a babysitter.

CROSBY: I mean, she's living here for free. She can at least baby-sit. It's like the one silver lining.

JASMINE: Yeah, but you messed that up when you didn't apologize to her like I asked you to.

CROSBY: I'm not getting into all that.

JASMINE: Well, yeah--

CROSBY: She's gonna be ecstatic.

JASMINE: No, she's not.

CROSBY: I'm gonna be out of the house for 24 hours. She's gonna be dancing around--

RENEE: Excuse me.

CROSBY: She may actually like that.

JASMINE: Yes, mom?

RENEE: Jas, um, where is my suitcase?

JASMINE: Why do you need your suitcase?

RENEE: I've decided that I'm going to move in with your brother.

JASMINE: Mom, come on. You don't have to do this.

RENEE: I know.

JASMINE: His place is too small.

RENEE: It'll be fine.

JASMINE: You don't have to leave.

RENEE: It'll be fine. I would prefer to be someplace where I'm wanted.

JASMINE: You are wanted.

RENEE: Okay.

JASMINE: You're wanted, right? [Looking at Crosby.]

RENEE: I just would like you to get me my suitcase, please. Thank you. Good morning, Crosby.

CROSBY: Good morning.

[Whispers]

CROSBY: Are you still gonna ask her, though, about babysitting?

JASMINE: You know what? Pfft.

[Jasmine walks away.]

CROSBY: What? I'm just teasing. [Whispering] Hey. Come on.

[NEW SCENE -

SARAH: Hey, there's a taxi outside.

HANK: Yeah, that printer's busted again. It took me like two hours. Gotta get this boarding pass.

SARAH: Boarding pass? [Laughs] Where are you going?

HANK: I gotta go to Minnesota...

SARAH: Now?

HANK: By the way. Yeah. Can you-- you can just watch--

SARAH: By the way? Yeah.

HANK: I gotta go for Ruby and the school thing. She's having trouble getting enrolled. I gotta go-- I don't know. I gotta yell at some people or something, so, um--

SARAH: Okay.

HANK: The guy for the, uh, the tub's coming.

SARAH: The tub guy?

HANK: Yeah, I got the leak.

SARAH: Uh-huh?

HANK: The guy with the accent.

SARAH: Anything else?

HANK: All right. No. That's it. I'll be back in like two-- two days.

SARAH: Okay, bye.

[They kiss.]

HANK: And then, um...

SARAH: Mm-hmm.

HANK: We'll, uh-- you know, we gotta-- we gotta do some talking when I get back.

SARAH: Okay, when you get back. Have a good trip.

HANK: All right, I-I'll--

SARAH: Go, go. It's okay.

HANK: I'll call you. I'll--

SARAH: Yeah, yeah, yeah. Okay.

HANK: I'll call you from the car.

SARAH: Yeah, call me, call me, call me.

[NEW SCENE - Dr Bedsloe's office.]

DR. BEDSLOE: Very good, Kristina. So things are looking very, very good.

ADAM: That's great.

KRISTINA: Wonderful.

DR. BEDSLOE: Your tests have come back. Your panels are good.

ADAM: Panels are good. Well, that's great.

KRISTINA: That's awesome.

ADAM: Yeah.

KRISTINA: That's awesome. So does that mean everything is-- that I'm clear and I'm good to go and--

DR. BEDSLOE: I think so, yeah. We still have, you know, your final Chemo to do.

KRISTINA: Right.

DR. BEDSLOE: After that, I'm gonna schedule you for a P.E.T. Scan.

KRISTINA: A P.E.T. Scan? What? That's like an M.R.I., right?

DR. BEDSLOE: It's a scan of the entire body.

KRISTINA: But you just said that everything was clear. Why would I--

ADAM: Wait, so is that just a precautionary thing?

KRISTINA: Why would I need a P.E.T. Scan?

DR. BEDSLOE: Well, a test showed some minor liver blood abnormalities. We think it's probably from the drugs. But just to be safe, it's something that we need to do.

ADAM: Okay.

KRISTINA: So wait, are you-- is it possible that the cancer could've spread somewhere else in my body?

DR. BEDSLOE: I just said--

ADAM: He said he doesn't think he's gonna find anything.

DR. BEDSLOE: Right.

ADAM: This is minor, maybe from the drugs.

DR. BEDSLOE: It's just something that's important for us to do once you've finished treatment. If there's anything else for us to deal with, we need to know about it.

KRISTINA: [Taking in the new information.] Okay. Okay.

[Opening credits - featuring “Forever Young” by Bob Dylan]

[NEW SCENE - The Graham dining room, Julia and Joel are talking to Victor, Sydney is near by.]

VICTOR: Why do I have to wear a suit?

JOEL: Ah.

JULIA: Because it's exciting. It's a big occasion.

JOEL: Yeah, it's fun to dress up.

JULIA: And, Sydney, you get to pick out a dress.

SYDNEY: I don't need a dress 'cause I'm not going to the ceremony.

JULIA: What?

SYDNEY: I don't think it's a good idea for Victor to be adopted.

JOEL: Syd...

SYDNEY: He's not truly a part of this family, and some stupid ceremony isn't going to change that.

JOEL: Okay, Syd--

JULIA: If you want to have a private conversation--

SYDNEY: I get that I have no choice about you going through with it, but I'm not going. I refuse to put on a dress and make believe I'm happy--

JOEL: Sydney.

JULIA: Go to your room.

SYDNEY: I'm already going!

JULIA: Yep.

[NEW SCENE - Drew is in his room, looking at the California college website. He types in Andrew Holt and a message appears. Congratulations, You're In!]

DREW: [Laughs, he can't believe it.] Oh, my God. Oh, my God. [Whispers] Oh, my gosh.

[NEW SCENE - Amber's apartment, there is a knock at door. Amber slides it open.]

RYAN: Hey.

AMBER: Hi.

RYAN: I got you these.

[He hands Amber some flowers.]

AMBER: [Laughs] Thank you. Wow.

RYAN: Sure. Can I come in for a sec?

AMBER: Yeah. Sure.

RYAN: Well, I, uh-- you gave me some good advice, and I listened to you this time. I went back to Joel.

ADAM: I heard.

RYAN: Oh, okay. Double shifts all last week.

AMBER: Wow.

RYAN: So, I mean, I've paid off the--the window.

AMBER: That's great.

RYAN: Yeah. And now I should be making some money, good money. You know, and, uh... I've, uh, I started doing therapy again. And it's good. I feel great. And the, uh, pills are under control. Everything's under control.

AMBER: [Laughs] Buddy. [Laughs]

RYAN: I love you so much. I think about you every minute, I feel like, of every day. [Amber starts crying.] I-I know this was all my fault. But I'm really working and changing. And I feel good now. [Voice shaking] And, um, I just hope that you can remember the Bond that we have. You know? You're my best friend in the whole world. I feel like I've known you my whole life. I don't even know...

AMBER: [Sniffles]

RYAN: What it was like before you. I don't even think about.

AMBER: [Sighs]

RYAN: So...

AMBER: [Sniffles]

RYAN: [Stammers] I don't--I didn't, uh-[Amber hugs Ryan.] I just wanted to give you the flowers. I wasn't-- [Laughs]

AMBER: [Sniffling]

RYAN: Uh... Okay, put those in water, or else they'll...

[Ryan leaves, Amber doesn't know what to do.]

[NEW SCENE - Chemo treatment room. There are a number of patients as Kristina and Adam enter the room.]

MARY: [Nurse] Okay. You all right?

[Indistinct chatter and laughter]

KRISTINA: [To another nurse.] Good morning. How are you? [Seeing Mary.]

ADAM: Hi.

KRISTINA: Hey.

MARY: Hey!

KRISTINA: Hi, Mary. How are you doing?

MARY: Ohh, your last treatment.

KRISTINA: My last treatment.

MARY: Yes!

KRISTINA: Thank you so much. My favorite nurse.

MARY: Aw.

KRISTINA: You're such an angel.

MARY: You're so sweet.

KRISTINA: I just want to say thank you so much for everything you've done. We actually brought you something. You've been so comforting to us, so...

MARY: Oh.

KRISTINA: We wanted to comfort you.

MARY: My God.

KRISTINA: Yeah.

MARY: You didn't have to do this. I mean, really.

ADAM: Not just a blanket.

MARY: Ooh.

KRISTINA: Something hidden in there.

MARY: You know the way to my heart.

KRISTINA: I know.

ADAM: Yeah, your liver right.

MARY: See you got your bag thing going there.

KRISTINA: [Laughs] Yes, I do.

ADAM: Magazines, snacks.

KRISTINA: Everything ready to go.

ADAM: It's all in there. Yep.

KRISTINA: Yep.

MARY: He's a good one.

KRISTINA: Yes, he is.

ADAM: Yeah.

KRISTINA: Thank you again.

MARY: [Chuckles]

KRISTINA: Hey, Adele. How you doing?

ADELE: [Silently]

KRISTINA: Joe, hi.

JOE: Hi. Last one, huh?

KRISTINA: Last one.

ADAM: Yeah.

KRISTINA: You're looking great.

JOE: Thanks.

[They see Gwen.]

KRISTINA: Hey.

GWEN: Hi. Hi, Kristina.

KRISTINA: What's, uh, what's going on?

GWEN: I relapsed.

KRISTINA: I'm sorry.

GWEN: It's not good, but I'm gonna fight it. I don't give up. I never give up.

KRISTINA: [Exhales]

MARK: Hi.

SARAH: Hi.

MARK: Hi. Uh, sorry, I-- do you have a couple minutes to talk?

SARAH: Do you want to come in?

MARK: No, um, I just gotta get this all out as quickly as possible and then leave. I just, um-- I've been thinking a lot about you and I and everything, and, um, and I just needed to tell you... To be honest, tell you that, um, I still love you, and-- and I know that I'm always gonna love you because you're the one for me. And we've come through so many different things, and--and we've fought for who we are. Because when it's just us in a room together, it's amazing. And I think you know that too. I should've fought for you, and I didn't, and now I am. I want to be with you, and I know that you have your thing going on, and my ultimate goal is your happiness, but I think that I'm the guy that can make you happy. And I think when you look inside yourself, you'll realize that I'm the one for you.

SARAH: Mark

MARK: and that's what I have to say. And just think about it. And then come find me.

[Sarah smiles as Mark leaves.]

[NEW SCENE - Braverman kitchen, Zeek is talking to Camille and Sarah.]

CAMILLE: That's what that sole is about, it helps with your posture.

ZEEK: Sarah, I need you to bless this as a dress shoe. So your sister Julia will think of it as a dress shoe.

SARAH: Dad, I--

CAMILLE: She's never gonna buy that...

ZEEK: And you're the older sister.

CAMILLE: As a dress shoe.

ZEEK: She'll listen to you, Sarah.

SARAH: She doesn't listen to me.

ZEEK: Yes, she will.

SARAH: In matters of fashion, dad? No. I can't help you.

CAMILLE: Not a chance.

SARAH: You're gonna need to wear...

[Drew enters the room.]

DREW: Hi.

SARAH: A buck or an Oxford or--

ZEEK: A buck?

DREW: Um--

SARAH: No, but, you know--

DREW: Hey, I got-- I heard from Berkeley. Um. Yeah, I-- [Laughs] I got in.

ZEEK: Really?

CAMILLE: What?

DREW: Yeah. I got in.

ZEEK: Oh, come here.

[Zeek hugs Drew.]

SARAH: Way to do the fake-out.

CAMILLE: Oh, drew!

ZEEK: Congratulations, grandson.

DREW: I can't believe it.

CAMILLE: Sweetheart, that's great.

[Camille hugs Drew.]

ZEEK: Oh, my gosh.

CAMILLE: I can't believe it.

ZEEK: Sarah.

SARAH: I just can't believe it.

[Sarah and Drew hug.]

DREW: Oh. Me neither.

SARAH: Oh, you deserve it, honey.

DREW: There's financial aid and all that.

SARAH: We'll make it work. So don't worry.

CAMILLE: That's a good school for you.

SARAH: Don't worry about it. I'm very happy for you.

CAMILLE: Don't you think?

DREW: I can't believe it.

CAMILLE: Berkeley's a perfect school.

DREW: Yeah.

SARAH: You're the first one in our family to get into college.

ZEEK: This is great!

[They all move in for a group hug with Drew in the middle.]

CAMILLE: It's your first choice.

DREW: I know.

CAMILLE: Your first choice school.

DREW: I know.

SARAH: Oh, my God.

[NEW SCENE - Upmarket clothing store. Joel is talking to Victor while Julia a short distance away looks at suits.]

JOEL: Hey, um, you know, what Syd said, you know she didn't mean that, right?

VICTOR: She sounded like she did.

JOEL: Yeah, well, I wouldn't worry about it. She's gonna be at the ceremony tomorrow.

VICTOR: I don't care.

JULIA: Yes. Eh?

JOEL: [Positively with a thumbs up.] Eh.

JULIA: Right?

JOEL: Yeah. Yeah.

JULIA: Victor.

JOEL: [To Victor.] So she's gonna pick out the suit. That's how this goes. Um, but why don't you go pick out the tie?

VICTOR: Okay.

JOEL: Okay.

JULIA: Okay. Options? Think.

VICTOR: I like this one.

JULIA: [Horrified] Oh, no. Oh, this is not the tie.

VICTOR: It's cool. I like it.

JOEL: This is the tie. This is-[Holding up the tie.] Hey, do you have another one of these?

JULIA: No. Honey, no., no, no.

JOEL: One for a little guy, and one for-- this is awesome.

JULIA: Oh, my God.

[NEW SCENE - Renee's room, Sekou, Crosby and Jasmine are packing things up. Sekou starts to carry a box out of the room.]

SEKOU: [Sighs heavily]

JASMINE: How's mom? Is she mad at me?

SEKOU: You're good. You? S.M.D.H.

CROSBY: S.M.D.--

SEKOU: Shaking my damn head.

CROSBY: Hmm.

JASMINE: What?

CROSBY: He only speaks in text codes. I don't know. Hey, do you think that smell is permanent, or it's just temporary?

JASMINE: What smell?

CROSBY: That kind of musty, mother-in-law, guilt-trippy-type smell that seems to be stuck in the sheets.

JASMINE: Don't be an idiot.

CROSBY: Hey.

JASMINE: Gimme the sheet.

CROSBY: Why are you so upset? She wasn't even that upset.

JASMINE: No, she was hurt. That's why.

CROSBY: It didn't read that way to me.

JASMINE: Really?

CROSBY: Yeah, it seemed like someone playing the victim. Plus she would love to be at Sekou's house, and he'd love to have her. [Sekou re-enters the room.] Right? You're excited to have your mom.

SEKOU: I live in a 700-square-foot apartment.

CROSBY: Yeah, that's rough.

[NEW SCENE - Adam and Kristina at home in their living room.]

ADAM: All right, honey, check this out.

KRISTINA: Ooh, I like this. Chateau du "Whit".

ADAM: I think you need to brush up on your French there, Kristina. Clearly, that is Chateau "Do it". Okay?

KRISTINA: Oh, my God, honey.

ADAM: So that's right there, okay?

KRISTINA: You're so corny.

ADAM: Here you go.

KRISTINA: Thank you for this. This is really a surprise.

ADAM: All right.

KRISTINA: It's so nice. Yeah.

ADAM: Just wait one second. Let me... Have a little toast.

KRISTINA: Okay. It's official?

ADAM: To my wife.

KRISTINA: [Glasses clink] My husband. Thanks for hanging in there with me.

ADAM: We've had quite a year.

KRISTINA: God, we sure have.

ADAM: I love you. Bottoms up.

KRISTINA: Mm.

ADAM: Ahh. Mm.

KRISTINA: That is--

ADAM: [lnhales deeply]

BOTH: That's good.

KRISTINA: Thank you very much.

ADAM: Mm. Mm.

KRISTINA: Yummy, yum, yum.

ADAM: What is that? Ow.

KRISTINA: What? Did you hurt yourself?

ADAM: Ooh, ah, just...

KRISTINA: What did you do?

ADAM: One second. Ooh! Oh.

[Pulls out an envelope from his back pocket.]

KRISTINA: What?

ADAM: What could that be?

KRISTINA: I don't know.

ADAM: Well, check it out.

KRISTINA: Okay. I'm a little scared.

ADAM: Little surprise.

KRISTINA: Cash and prizes?

ADAM: Just a little surprise.

[Reads the piece of paper.]

KRISTINA: It's Hawaii.

ADAM: Yep. I know what you're thinking. I checked with Dr. Bedsloe. He said it's fine. Got the whole family ready to take care of Max...

KRISTINA: Adam, um, I--

ADAM: And Nora and Otis. It's all set. All you have to do-- pack a bathing suit and a good book, honey.

KRISTINA: I really wish that you would've talked to me before booking this trip.

ADAM: Listen don't worry about the money. We had a good month at the Luncheonette, okay? We're fine.

KRISTINA: I'm not worried about that at all, honey. We don't know that I'm healthy.

ADAM: We do, honey.

KRISTINA: We don't, no.

ADAM: We do.

KRISTINA: We don't.

ADAM: I talked to Dr. Bedsloe.

KRISTINA: Honey, you saw Gwen. You saw what happened to her. I mean, she was doing fine.

ADAM: I know.

KRISTINA: And then, out of nowhere, it just, like-- it came back, and it's in her lungs.

ADAM: I know that. I know that.

KRISTINA: It's everywhere, and she's scared.

ADAM: I feel terrible, and I'm sorry that she's scared, but that's not you. That's not you.

KRISTINA: How do we know that? We don't know that, Adam.

ADAM: Yes, we do, honey.

KRISTINA: Listen to me. We don't, okay? Until I have that test, we know nothing. So I'm sorry, but I can't plan a vacation or a trip or go celebrate something...

ADAM: Okay, I'm sorry.

KRISTINA: When I don't know that I'm--

ADAM: Okay.

KRISTINA: I'm sorry.

ADAM: Let's take a beat. Let's just take a beat. Okay? All right.

KRISTINA: I want you to cancel the trip.

ADAM: Okay. Okay.

KRISTINA: I'm gonna go check on our nugget.

ADAM: I'll check on her. You don't--

KRISTINA: No, it's--babe, it's okay. Thank you so much.

ADAM: All right.

[Kristina leaves the room to check Nora.]

ADAM: [Sighs]

[NEW SCENE - Luncheonette, Adam in his office working on his laptop. There is a light knock at the open door.]

ADAM: Yeah?

[Adam looks too the door. Kristina is wearing a pink wig.]

KRISTINA: Hi.

ADAM: Wow. You look great.

KRISTINA: You like it?

ADAM: Yeah, I love that.

KRISTINA: I just got three new ones at the wig shop.

ADAM: Oh, yeah. Really, uh, sexy.

KRISTINA: Brought you some brownies.

ADAM: Oh. Thank you.

KRISTINA: [Sighs] Honey, I'm sorry.

ADAM: Oh, no, no, no.

KRISTINA: I'm so sorry. I.

ADAM: Hey.

[Kristina sits on Adam's lap.]

KRISTINA: No, I overreacted to everything, and…

ADAM: I'm sorry. No, I shouldn't have…

KRISTINA: You didn't do anything wrong.

ADAM: Honey, I shouldn't have rushed into making Hawaii plans without checking in with you.

KRISTINA: Okay, most women would love that.

ADAM: It was selfish. I was missing you.

KRISTINA: I'm.

ADAM: I'm tired of sharing you with... Cancer and everybody else. I just wanted you for myself for a while. Pinky Tuscadero?

KRISTINA: Yeah.

ADAM: Yeah, and the Fonz?

KRISTINA: I love her. You're the Fonz.

ADAM: [Imitating Fonzie] Heyyy.

KRISTINA: I can get you a leather jacket.

ADAM: Hey.

KRISTINA: Will you wear it?

ADAM: Come here.

KRISTINA: With no underwear?

ADAM: Come here.

KRISTINA: [Giggles]

ADAM: Come here, you.

KRISTINA: Please?

[They kiss.]

BOTH: Mm.

ADAM: Hi.

KRISTINA: Oh, wow, what's going on in--

ADAM: What?

KRISTINA: That's good.

ADAM: Oh, my--geez. What the…

CROSBY: What did you guys…

ADAM: Didn't mom teach you how to knock?

KRISTINA: God.

CROSBY: You having an afternoon delight with Strawberry Shortcake?

ADAM: All right, okay.

CROSBY: You need to warn me about that.

ADAM: Come on, hit the road, Cros.

CROSBY: What do you need? Like, 38 seconds?

KRISTINA: Get out. [Crosby leaves.] How does he know? [Laughing] I'm just kidding.

ADAM: Oh, my God.

[NEW SCENE - Mark's classroom, he is marking grades and there is indistinct chatter in the distance. The door creaks as it opens.]

SARAH: Hi.

MARK: Hi.

SARAH: Can I come in?

MARK: Yeah. Yeah, please.

SARAH: I have something to say.

MARK: Uhhuh?

SARAH: [Inhales deeply, exhales] I'm going to try to make it work with Hank.

MARK: [Inhales]

SARAH: I have to get my life together. I could never explain to you... [Clears throat] How much I love you.

MARK: [Slight laugh]

SARAH: I'm gonna make it work with Hank.

MARK: [Voice shaking] Um... [Sighs shakily] I-I don't-- I don't know what to s-- to say.

SARAH: I'm sorry. Good-bye, Mark.

MARK: Bye.

[Sarah leaves, Mark returns to his desk.]

[NEW SCENE - Julia and Victor at home, he is playing with a football inside.]

VICTOR: Takes the snap, and the blitz is on! We've never seen anything like this kid!

JULIA: Okay, hey, careful.

VICTOR: Oof! [Thud, clatter] I'm sorry.

JULIA: Are you okay?

VICTOR: Yeah. I'll-- I'll pay for it.

JULIA: I told you to be careful.

VICTOR: How much is it?

JULIA: It's expensive.

VICTOR: I'm sorry.

JULIA: It's okay. You don't have to pay for it. No, no, let's just-- let's just-- how about this? Let's just go back to the no football in the house rule.

VICTOR: Yeah.

JULIA: Thank you. All right.

VICTOR: So you're not gonna change your mind about adopting me? Like, not have the ceremony?

JULIA: No.

VICTOR: Okay.

JULIA: I'm never gonna change my mind.

VICTOR: Okay. Okay.

JULIA: I want you to stick around.

VICTOR: Okay.

[NEW SCENE - Night time Drew sits with Amy outside her house.]

DREW: How've you been feeling?

AMY: I'm okay.

DREW: Yeah?

AMY: Thanks.

DREW: Yeah. That's good.

AMY: Yeah. Thanks for, um... Everything. For being there for me.

DREW: Yeah, of course. I mean-- you know, I still think about you all the time. [Laughs] Like, constantly.

AMY: Yeah. Me too.

DREW: Well, I also wanted to tell you that I got into Berkeley.

AMY: Whoh, my God.

DREW: Yeah.

AMY: Drew, that's amazing.

DREW: It's pretty crazy. I know, I-- it's pretty shocking.

AMY: It's incredible.

DREW: Yeah, I got the letter, and the first person I wanted to tell was you.

AMY: I'm really happy for you.

DREW: Thank you.

AMY: I got into Tufts.

DREW: [Laughs] Are you kidding?

AMY: Nope.

DREW: Oh, my gosh. That was, like, in your top three.

AMY: [Laughs] I know. Yeah.

DREW: That's amazing.

AMY: Yeah.

DREW: That's in Boston, huh?

AMY: It is in Boston.

DREW: Wow. That's awesome, though.

AMY: Thanks.

DREW: All right, well, I just wanted to-- to say hi and-- so I guess I should-- should go. All right, well...

[They stand then hug.]

AMY: I'll never forget you.

DREW: Yeah, I'll never forget you either.

[NEW SCENE - Next day, Amber knocks on Ryan's door.]

AMBER: Hi.

RYAN: Hi.

AMBER: Can I talk to you for a sec?

RYAN: Yeah.

[Ryan comes outside, closing the door.]

AMBER: Okay. I just had to tell you some things. Okay, um... So we haven't talked about this yet, but a few years ago, I was in a car accident. I was drinking, and, uh, it was really bad, you know. And I almost died, and it-- you know, it just made me realize that when you have people in your life that love you, at a certain point, you know, you have to take responsibility for that. And it means something, and it matters. And, you know, I don't know. I guess what I'm trying to say is that I love you. I love you more than I ever thought that I could love anybody. I don't want to waste one more second doing anything without you. [Crying] And I need to know that you're gonna try to be strong and accept the fact that I love you and try to be responsible for that, because I'm scared, and I don't think that I can do it alone, and I don't know-- [sobbing] You know?

RYAN: Yeah.

[They hug, Amber sobbing.]

AMBER: Okay.

RYAN: Listen. There's so much in my life that's... Doesn't make sense and is not clear. But you are, okay? We are.

AMBER: Yeah.

RYAN: This.

AMBER: [Giggling]

RYAN: I love you so much.

[They kiss.]

AMBER: I love you so much.

[NEW SCENE - Sydney's room, she is reading a book on her bed.]

VICTOR: Hey. What are you doing?

SYDNEY: Reading a book. What do you want?

VICTOR: Um, I want you to come to my adoption ceremony.

[We see Julia in the background at the doorway.]

SYDNEY: Why?

VICTOR: Because you're my sister.

SYDNEY: [Sighs] Fine. Get out of my room.

VICTOR: Okay. [Turns to see Julia.] Um, looks like she's gonna need a dress.

JULIA: Cool.

[NEW SCENE - Cafe Des Nuits, Crosby and Jasmine are at the chef's table.]

CROSBY: Mm.

JASMINE: Wow.

CROSBY: That is tasty.

JASMINE: Mmhmm.

CROSBY: I wish salad always tasted like--thank you. That's a nice dressing on there.

JASMINE: Yeah, the balsamic.

CROSBY: Yeah, the balsamic.

CHANTEL: [French accent.] Now... Our signature dish. This is a wagyu filet with a mousseline of smoked chanterelle mushrooms and black garlic.

CROSBY: Oh! Mm, mm! Oh, it is so good.

BOTH: Mm-mmm!

CROSBY: Oh, that's so good. Mm. Mm. [Drinks some wine.] Mm! Nice pairing as well.

JASMINE: Mm. [Clears throat]

CROSBY: Hey.

JASMINE: Yeah?

CROSBY: What's going on? Do you want to eat out there or something?

JASMINE: No, no, no.

CROSBY: You don't like it in here?

JASMINE: I'm just, um--

CROSBY: You hot?

JASMINE: No, I'm just worried about my mother. I'm sorry.

CROSBY: Look, I think her moving in with Sekou was kind of a good thing, you know? Now that he's helping shoulder the responsibility, it's like in my family. When one of my parents gets too crazy, I just send 'em on to the next sibling, and I think it's kept all of us alive, to be honest.

JASMINE: [Chuckles] I don't know. I don't think it's the same thing. You know…

CROSBY: Why not?

JASMINE: My mom raised us on her own, and she worked really hard to do that. And with Jabbar, for five years, she was the other parent, you know. She watched him when I was going to school and going to work, and she got up in the middle of the night to feed him. I'm sorry. I just-- I hate that she doesn't feel welcome in our home. You know, it's-- it's killing me. And I'm not choosing her over you. I just owe her everything.

CROSBY: I get it.

JASMINE: Anyways, we're gonna need her help when the baby gets here.

CROSBY: When the who? When the who gets here?

JASMINE: We're having a baby.

CROSBY: No! You're pregnant right now?

JASMINE: Happy anniversary.

CROSBY: No! Are you kidding? You're pregnant?

JASMINE: [Laughing] Yes.

CROSBY: You have a baby in here?

JASMINE: It's our baby.

CROSBY: Come on!

[They kiss.]

[NEW SCENE - Sekou's apartment, he is playing Scrabble with Renee.]

SEKOU: "Fitna."

RENEE: [Laughs] "Fitna" is not a word.

SEKOU: Ma, "fitna" is a word. It's like I'm fitna--

RENEE: Use it in a sentence.

SEKOU: I'm fitna…

[Jasmine and Crosby enter the apartment knocking as the come in.]

JASMINE: Hello!

CROSBY: Cold out there.

RENEE: What's wrong? Why are you two here on your anniversary?

JASMINE: Nothings wrong.
CROSBY: We just wanted to come by and see how everything was going.

RENEE: Oh. Well, everything's okay. Sekou loves having me.

SEKOU: Yes, I do.

[Crosby chuckles as he sees Sekou spell out 'Help Me' in Scrabble tiles.]

RENEE: It's what? That is not funny.

SEKOU: That's my next word.

CROSBY: You guys are playing scrabble?

SEKOU: Is that food? Please?

RENEE: Yes, well, my son likes making up words.

SEKOU: Mom, that was a real word.

RENEE: "Fitna."

SEKOU: "Fitna" is a word.

RENEE: Use it in a sentence.

SEKOU: I'm fitna eat.

CROSBY: "Fitna," not a word. [Laughs]

RENEE: Not a word.

CROSBY: Not in this country.

JASMINE: Why are you trying to cheat her, Sekou?

RENEE: Okay, guys. I'm fine, really. You can go back to your celebration.

CROSBY: Well, look, we were at dinner, and we were with a new friend. And, um, that new friend thought that I owed you an apology, and I agree. I'm sorry that I talked to you the way I did when we were talking about Jabbar, and I won't let it happen again.

RENEE: It's okay.

CROSBY: And, um, so then this new friend wanted to meet you. So now we've-- we've brought him over.

JASMINE: Mm-hmm.

CROSBY: I hope that's okay.

RENEE: [Laughs] Sure.

CROSBY: Okay, um, they're in here. And we wanted you to be the first to know.

RENEE: Oh, my God.

JASMINE: I'm pregnant.

RENEE: Oh. Oh!

JASMINE: [Laughing] Oh!

RENEE: Oh! Oh, my baby. [Laughter]

CROSBY: Yeah. [Sekou hugs Crosby to congratulate him.]

[NEW SCENE - Hanks apartment, Sarah and Hank are seated at the counter having some wine.]

SARAH: You know, he's banging with the hammer, and he just keeps looking at me. He's getting agitated. He's like... [German accent] "The leek iz a wassah." [Laughs] And I was just like, "okay, here's $300." So I don't know what was wrong.

HANK: But it's fixed.

SARAH: The lick was wassah.

HANK: Well, that's how you play the game with him. Trust me.

SARAH: [Laughs]

HANK: Well, I got something I want to tell you. I, uh--

SARAH: I've got a bonus coming to me from Christmas. 'Cause you forgot to give me...

HANK: No.

SARAH: My Christmas bonus.

HANK: No, if you haven't gotten it by now--

SARAH: You'd like to promote me to head technical advisor.

HANK: [Serious] I don't like to act... Impulsively. I like to... You know, think things out and all that. But sometimes I just want to take a leap of faith and do what I feel is right. And... This feels like it's something I have to do and I want to do. I, uh, I'm gonna move to Minnesota.

SARAH: That is not what I thought you were gonna say.

HANK: I'm gonna go back tomorrow.

SARAH: Tomorrow.

HANK: I'm gonna find an apartment. And then I'm gonna come back, take care of things here, and I'm gonna close the shop. I'm gonna move there. I'm gonna move there. I, um-- here's the thing. I never met anybody like you.

SARAH: Ugh.

HANK: No, that's the truth. I never thought I would. I never was looking to meet anybody. You're, uh... Very special. But my daughter-- I was watching her, and I just thought, she's gonna be in college. And--you know, I'm gonna blink...

SARAH: I know.

HANK: And she's gonna be in college.

SARAH: Believe me.

HANK: And if I'm not there, if I'm like an absentee dad…

SARAH: No, you could never do that.

HANK: Yeah, I don't want to do that.

SARAH: I know. [Sighs]

HANK: Wish there was another way.

SARAH: [Sighs] It's okay.

[Sarah reaches out for Hank, they hold hands.]

HANK: [Chuckles]

[Sarah fights back tears.]

[NEW SCENE - Kristina having her P.E.T. scan. We see Adam in the control room and Kristina slowly going into the machine on the moving bed.]

SYDNEY: Grandma, my hair's great.

JULIA: It's perfect, mom.

JOEL: Wow.

JULIA: You did a great job.

CAMILLE: Thank you.

[Near by we see Ryan and Amber approaching Zeek.]

ZEEK: Hey!

AMBER: Hi.

[They shake hands.]

ZEEK: Hi.

RYAN: Hey, Zeek.

ZEEK: Yeah, glad you could make it.

RYAN: Thanks. Wouldn't miss it.

ZEEK: Thanks for doing this.

RYAN: Oh, sure.

AMBER: You look pretty nice.

[Next we see Sarah with Adam, Nora and Kristina]

KRISTINA: It went well. But we're just waiting for the results.

SARAH: You look great.

ADAM: Doesn't she.

KRISTINA: Thank you. I look like Gloria Swanson.

[Next Max is giving Victor a gift.]

MAX: This is for you.

VICTOR: Oh, thanks.

MAX: Yeah, he is a Berber/Schneider Skink lizard. They're recommended for beginners, so you probably won't kill him.

VICTOR: Okay.

MAX: Probably. You need to think of a name.

[Next Amber has found Drew.]

AMBER: Hey, brother. What are you doing over here? You brooding?

DREW: No, snap-shotting.

AMBER: I see.

DREW: Yeah.

AMBER: So how's it going? I haven't seen you in a while. What's new?

DREW: It's true.

AMBER: I mean, if only there was some cool big news you could reveal to me.

DREW: Did somebody tell you?

AMBER: Come on, man. Look at these people.

DREW: I know.

AMBER: Of course!

DREW: But I wanted to tell you alone.

AMBER: What is wrong with you? Like, how could you ever think I would be anything other than the proudest person in the entire universe?

DREW: I don't know. I wanted to tell you personally. And--

AMBER: I love you so much. [Laughing] I'm so proud of you!

DREW: I'm excited.

AMBER: Thank God you're staying close to home.

JOEL: Oh, your honor.

JULIA: Hi. We have, uh--

JUDGE CHOMSKY: Yes, yes, come on in.

JULIA: Bravermans.

[The family starts to enter the room.]

JUDGE CHOMSKY: All right, yes, I--

JOEL: There's actually quite a--

VICTOR: This is Salsa. He's a lizard.

JOEL: This'll take a while.

JUDGE CHOMSKY: All right, well--

JULIA: That's a good idea. Just, uh--

JUDGE CHOMSKY: Okay, all right. Come on in. Come in, please. Come in.

SARAH: Huh? What?

JUDGE CHOMSKY: Okay, close the door.

JULIA: Promise--all right.

JUDGE CHOMSKY: Okay, every-- please, hello? Everyone, please.

[The chatter subsides.]

JUDGE CHOMSKY: All right, welcome.

JULIA: Ahem.

JUDGE CHOMSKY: Thank you. All right, so Joel and Julia Graham.

JULIA: Yes.

JOEL: Yeah, hi.

JULIA: That's--yes.

JUDGE CHOMSKY: So, now, you understand that by signing this adoption agreement form, you agree to take care of Victor as your own legal child. Right? To provide for his health, his welfare, his educational needs.

JOEL: We do.

JULIA: Yes, your honor.

JUDGE CHOMSKY: Victor, do you understand? Do you agree to this adoption?

VICTOR: Yeah.

JUDGE CHOMSKY: [Chuckles] Okay, then.

JULIA: [Laughs]

JUDGE CHOMSKY: All right. Well, unless anyone has anything to add, I'm ready to make it official.

ZEEK: [Clears throat] Your honor, if I may.

JUDGE CHOMSKY: You may.

ZEEK: As grandparents, my wife, Camille, and myself will do the best we can to give Victor what we've given our own children, which is our undying love and support. And also, being a baseball aficionado, uh, I would like to teach him the art of fielding the hot grounder.

JUDGE CHOMSKY: Okay.

ZEEK: But hey. That can wait till later, and--

ADAM: Your honor, I'm sorry. If I may. I'm Adam Braverman. I'm Zeek and Camille's oldest son. And I promise to be your Uncle. [To Victor.] Listen, your-- your aunt Kristina and I are no substitute for your stellar parents. But we promise to be there for you no matter what.

SARAH: You can always come to me, Victor, if you need help, and I promise I won't rat you out to your mom. I can give you dating advice.

AMBER: Yes, yes. And I can help repair the terrible damage that her dating advice does.

SARAH: What is this? What…

CROSBY: I'm willing to teach you how to ride a motorcycle and play an instrument.

JASMINE: Oh, that's much cooler.

CROSBY: Your girl troubles will vanish immediately once you know those two things.

JABBAR: And you can come to my house anytime. We can play Xbox, and you can sleep over and stuff.

MAX: Now that you're adopted, you can officially hold my lizards.

VICTOR: Okay.

JOEL: Thank you, Max.

JULIA: I promise to love you, buddy.

JOEL: Yeah. No matter what.

SYDNEY: Me too.

VICTOR: Okay. Okay.

JUDGE CHOMSKY: Quite a family you're coming into. All right, on this date, January 24, 2013, Joel and Julia Graham have officially adopted Victor Graham. You're now legally their child. You have all the rights of any natural child.

VICTOR: Okay.

JUDGE CHOMSKY: I will hereby sign this order confirming the adoption. All right.

JULIA: Yes!

[Cheers and whistles form the family.]

JUDGE CHOMSKY: Thank you.

SARAH: Congratulations.

JUDGE CHOMSKY: Your welcome.

[Applause continues.]

ZEEK: Victor!

CROSBY: Whoo!

JUDGE CHOMSKY: Congratulations.

JOEL: Thank you.

CROSBY: All right, Victor!

JASMINE: Whoo!

ADAM: Congratulations.

CROSBY: All right, Victor.

ADAM: Welcome to the family. Welcome to the family.

JOEL: [Laughs] Get in here.

MAX: Judge, can I use your gavel?

JUDGE CHOMSKY: Sure, why not, kid?

JULIA: Yay!

ZEEK: Let's go eat.

JUDGE CHOMSKY: Go ahead.

[He bangs it hard on the desk then doesn't stop.]

JULIA: Whoa! Max. Okay, okay-- Hey, Max!

[Adam rushes in.]

ADAM: Wait, wait. Watch out, please--Max. Stop. Don't do that. No, no, no, no.

VICTOR: Can I try it once?

ADAM: Nope, nope, nope. Take it easy. All right.

VICTOR: Max, that was great. Come on, Max. Let's go. [To Julia.] Can Max and I go to the vending machine?

JULIA: Yeah, you bet, buddy.

JOEL: Okay.

JULIA: Of course.

CROSBY: Thanks, mom.

JULIA: [To Joel.] He called me mom.

JOEL: [Laughs]

JULIA: Thank you so much.

JOEL: Thank you.

JUDGE CHOMSKY: You're welcome.

JOEL: Sorry.

JUDGE CHOMSKY: Good luck.

JOEL: Okay.

ZEEK: Hold the doors.

JULIA: Thank you.

SARAH: Max?

HANK: Yeah, yeah, Max. You look down to look out, so you don't have to look at people. But you still see people. Somebody gave it to me when I was his age, and I started taking pictures, and-- I don't know. Give it to him. If he doesn't like it, sell it on eBay. Have a raffle or something.

SARAH: Thank you.

HANK: Yeah. Okay, so the other thing I wanted to say was that, um, I think I might love you. Yeah. Think I might love you, and I know that might sound crazy, and maybe you don't share the feeling, but that's okay.

SARAH: I love you too.

HANK: Come with me.

SARAH: Okay, let's go. [Chuckles]

HANK: No, I mean, why not, right? I don't, uh-- there's only two people that I care about. You know, you're one of them. [Short pause.] All right, look. Just think about it.

KRISTINA: [Laughs breathily]

ADAM: [Laughing]

KRISTINA: Sorry, but can you say that again?

DR. BEDSLOE: The P.E.T. Scan showed no irregularities. This confirms my impression that the blood test abnormality was a consequence of one of the meds you got. You are cancer-free.

KRISTINA: [Laughing]

ADAM: Thank you, doctor.

KRISTINA: Oh, my God.

ADAM: Thank you.

DR. BEDSLOE: Now, of course, you still need to have your radiation therapy.

KRISTINA: Yeah.

DR. BEDSLOE: We can schedule you for that in four to six weeks. And this is something that we need to track closely. You need to come to regular exams. Your next mammogram will be in three months. We don't use the word "cure" for five years.

KRISTINA: I understand. I totally understand.

DR. BEDSLOE: But for now, take a deep breath. Relax. Enjoy yourself. Enjoy your family. You deserve it.

KRISTINA: Thank you so much, doctor. You saved my life.

ADAM: Thank you, doctor.

KRISTINA: You really did. Thank you.
